VT River Conservancy Project Could Reduce Wheelock Village Flooding

Vermont River Conservancy and Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation Celebrate the Successful Closing of the Gilman River Corridor Easement

June 19, 2025, Sheffield, VT – Vermont River Conservancy (VRC), in partnership with the Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC), is proud to announce the successful closing of the Gilman River Corridor Easement.

This significant achievement ensures the permanent protection of 22.5 acres of critical river corridor along Millers Run in Sheffield, Vermont. The easement protects approximately 4,635 ft of river frontage which is upstream of Wheelock and the bedrock falls that cascade through the village center. It is predicted that sediment and flood attenuation in this reach provides valuable protections to Wheelock village downstream as well as the larger Passumpsic River watershed.
